Argus, 4 July 1870, p 3 - R & B tenders for villa res, SY, for Col Anderson; 1 Apr 1882, p 15 - R & B tenders for stables & outblgs for Fairlie-house, SY. Fairlie House album of photos, seen 1997 at SLV , where it is on offer to purchase, provenance to the Anderson family, therefore probably 1870s. TS Note: Photos have the stamp of the photographer J P Lind, 205 Chapel St, Windsor. Lind is not listed at this address until S&M 1882, but as the album has the bookplate of Col. W A D Anderson, CMG [he died in 1882], it is likely that the photos are c 1881 allowing for a time for S&M to catch up with Lind's accurate address. Argus, 19 July, 1877, p 1. Death notice of Lt Col Joseph Anderson at his residence, 'Fairlie House', South Yarra, aged 88 years. [TS Note: Fairlie (1) or Fairlie (2)?] Argus, 11 Mar 1882, p 5 - to let, 'Fairlie-House' set in 4 acres of pleasure grounds, with 5 lawn tennis courts. Grd floor large dining, drawing & ante rooms, morning rm, large bedr, spacious hall, huon pine divisions of 3 chief rooms can be removed to create a splendid ballroom. Handsome staircase, first floor with boudoir, 10 bed and dressing rms, 2 bathrooms, &c. New stables are being erected. ADB, vol 3. William Acland Douglas Anderson died at his home 'Fairlie' on 23 Jan 1882. Vic Rep Men, 54-5; Perry in ADB, III, 32-3; Cannon, Melb after Gold, p 262 - Anderson sold Fairlie to Edmund Fitzgibbon who built the 2 st mansion of the same name [incorrect in that it was already built, Anderson died in occupation, and it was then offered to let not for sale]. Mary Clark, Age, 7 Dec 1996, Travel p 3 - Arthur Streeton rented the top floor of Fairlie House in Anderson Street after his return from Europe in August 1923. Argus,12 Sept 1936, p 2 - sale notice, 'Fairlie House' and 'Little Fairlie' both divided into flats. Short description.
